Who is the fairest of them all?
Mirrors are no longer just the looking glass of princess stories anymore. Today, mirrors are art.

I always try to answer the really burning questions in this blog…such as this: how do you pick the perfect lamp? Here’s how.
This trip has been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember, and after months of planning and anticipation, I finally made the journey.
Was it everything I had hoped for? 100 percent.
Here is my bare, honest truth. No filter. Just me on a Sunday morning, writing this post. No makeup, and my hair pulled back in – well…definitely not a style. I can’t believe it, but tomorrow I turn 60. I also can’t believe all the things that change as we
I’d like to say a quick thank you to the brilliant friend who gave me the idea for this post. If you have any suggestions for future posts, I would love to hear them!
If there is one thing worse than trying to find a new pair of jeans that fit, it’s finding a swimsuit. So I put off buying a new one for, well – years, and then suddenly…it’s time. The drawer full of old favorites is also full of snagged tushes, stretched
We all know that spending time in nature is good for you. It clears the head of all the gunk.
My husband and I eat vegetarian food once or twice a week. We aren’t purposeful about it – we don’t do “meatless Monday” or anything like that. We do it because there are so many vegetarian options that we think are truly delicious, and that don’t make us feel like we are missing out. It’s just a natural part of our meal rotation.
A question that often comes up over the lifetime of a design project is “what is going on these walls?”
I’m pretty sure you all know me as a dog lover. I lived the first 35 years of my life without a dog, and I can now see what a waste of time that was – but I’ve been making it up ever since.
On a recent visit across the pond to London (one of the greatest walking cities in the world), I was inspired by the shoes in all the shop windows.
My husband and I have talked about going to Berlin forever. He’s a huge WWII buff, and I love all the old, great cities of Europe – but somehow we just never made it to Berlin. Until recently…and we were both absolutely blown away by what we found there.
Some of the biggest decorating decisions, and the ones I see clients getting stuck on, are light fixtures. Especially the important, statement-making ones.
People think I love to cook. Uh uh, not so much. But I do love to eat.
And I really, really like to stay at home on Valentine’s Day. It’s so much more romantic than going out to a restaurant with a preset menu and lots of strangers trying to enjoy themselves.
Here it is, my very personal list of style icons. It was interesting to put this list together…eye opening for me, really.
It’s the new year, and people want to know what’s next.
I ask my fashion friends what they are wearing and my travel tipsters where they are planning to go. But when people ask me what’s hot in interiors, I struggle a bit. I mean really, I read an article about the new movement in design being “cautious optimism”. Huh? Sorry, but I don’t get it.
I have been incredibly fortunate to have been a member of the same book group for more than 20 years now. Once a month, we get together and talk about the books we’ve read. Some meetings we have amazing, in-depth discussions.
There is a delicious period that happens at the end of December.
All of the parties are done and the thank you cards are written. Work is a sleeping giant that doesn’t need feeding just yet…so there is a bit of time to relax by the fire with a good book.
As Eartha Kitt so profoundly sings, “Santa baby, I want a yacht and really that’s not a lot”. Here are the items I am giving (or very much hoping to receive) this year.
Ah, the wonders of Roma. The ancient ruins, the romance…the pasta.
It is one of the most captivating cities in the world. I’m guessing many of you have been, perhaps more than once. You’ve seen the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, and the Pantheon. All of which are well worth the visit.
For some people to like a piece of artwork, they need to see something in it.
Tis the season for cozying up by the fire. Today I’d like to talk about the design of the fireplace and surround. (We will circle back on great fireplace accessories at some point so stay tuned for that.)
Today I am starting a new feature on the blog, and I hope you like it. Every few months I am going to have a chat with someone amazing. Someone I want to have as a friend, and someone I think you will find pretty cool, too.
I used to labor over meal prep at dinner time, and lack of planning or outsized ambition often meant we didn’t sit down until 9 o’clock to eat.
When the temperatures dip into the 70’s, I start thinking about wearing boots. I actually think about them a lot…even in the middle of summer. The boots I own, the boots of my past, and the boots I want to buy. I’m a deep thinker.
Thanksgiving feels like a long way away, but the truth is, we only have three months until the kick off to the holiday season. It feels like this is going to be a big, celebratory year with lots of family gathered around the table.
Buying new countertops? Here is your guide to demystifying all of the choices.
Hard to believe, but summer will be coming to a close soon (at least according to the calendar).
My husband and I recently had a little quickie in Austin. Meaning a short weekend getaway, of course. And it was perfection.
We’ve moved a lot of people into gorgeous homes, so I’ve spent some time thinking about the last minute things that make a new space feel absolutely perfect. The things that personalize your home and add comfort and style. If you are 30 years old and getting these things as
What I will be cooking this summer:
Parmesan and Herb Turkey Burgers from Christopher Kimball’s Milk Street are hands down the best turkey burger. Ever. And possibly the best anything burger.
When building or remodeling a house, there are lots of big decisions and thousands of micro decisions to be made along the way.
I don’t believe in traveling light. I mean, I believe in it… I just don’t do it.
Something unexpected always comes up on a trip (and I like to be prepared) so I definitely pack that extra pair of shoes. And an outfit that I probably won’t need. I’m like a boy scout. I’m prepared.
After you travel to some places, you check them off your list. But there are other places that you could return to again and again.
I wouldn’t consider myself a particularly sentimental person, and I am not a mother (just to furbabies), but I can appreciate that the job of being a mom is really tough.
3-dimensional surfaces that are about the look and feel. Art that puts forward a surface that has unique movement and depth.
At the risk of repeating myself, if you know me, you know I love to cook. To be honest, that’s not strictly true. What I love to do is eat, and if I want to eat well, I have to cook. Because I am a bit of a homebody–the perfect night for me is a roaring fire, a great show on TV, and a tasty, home cooked meal.
We all know it–wallcoverings have been having a major moment. And I’m happy to predict that it will be in style for the foreseeable future. Wallcoverings positively transform a space. I once did a tone on tone red stripe for a client’s narrow little powder room. We hung it horizontally
This question is a constant in a designer’s life: “What do I do with my bookshelves?”. It seems to come up on every project at some point, and I’ve even had people ask if they could hire me for the specific purpose of making their bookshelves look great. Surprisingly, this is a problem that afflicts many of us – too much shelf real estate. Here are a few simple ideas to consider when you are faced with this issue:
Shooting an interior design project can take years. No kidding.
First you have to start with a great client. Then you do the project — a new build could take three years and a renovation, maybe 18 months. You install all this cool stuff, and you book the shoot. But that’s just the beginning.
Articles about the “Pareto 80/20 Principle” have been popping up in my mailbox lately. If you aren’t familiar, it states that about 80 percent of consequences occur due to 20 percent of causes. For example, 80 percent of your income comes from 20 percent of your investments, or 80 percent of a store’s sales come from only 20 percent of its product.
I’ve just returned from a great Christmas and New Year’s holiday in the UK. It had everything I love about England, including charming, little villages and hamlets and long walks in wide, grassy fields beside herds of sheep and cows. Plus great food! You know I love to eat well.
2022 feels hopeful. Don’t you think so, too? It feels like it is high time to look forward. At the start of each year, I like to set my intentions for the next 12 months. Setting intentions helps direct my path for who and how I want to be. In
My holiday decorating style has always leaned toward natural, winter-inspired looks rather than the more traditionally themed designs. While I fully appreciate nutcrackers, I leave that for the ballet. I get excited by pine cones and fir trees, icy sparkles and silvery greens.
We are always on the hunt for interesting pieces that make a client’s home unique. Those pieces can come in many forms: a beautiful textile, an oil painting or a vintage find, for example.
I wonder why from late November to early January, we crave the same food that we’ve eaten year after year at this time.
It’s time for the next stage of our lives, and we want to spend it in the perfect house for this chapter. I know what I want, and as we push through the design process, the task is to figure out how to bring my vision to reality.
A good handbag and a stylish pair of shoes can make an outfit. Pair the right bag with even a simple T-shirt and jeans, and you can walk out the door with minimal effort and maximum style.
I adore the idea of supporting talented women working today. Here are six female artists I am following right now.
Fall is quickly on its way, but it’s not too late to seize that last sliver of summer. After the Covid-19 restrictions, many people need a relaxing getaway — a way to squeeze some enjoyment out of the lemons we’ve been given.
