Suitable for Summer

If there is one thing worse than trying to find a new pair of jeans that fit, it’s finding a swimsuit.

So I put off buying a new one for, well – years, and then suddenly…it’s time. The drawer full of old favorites is also full of snagged tushes, stretched out leg holes, and tired style. I’m on the hunt for a new suit, and I plan to score a few so that I don’t have to do this again for a while. Here is what I have my eye on. Let me know if you have a favorite!

Spoiler alert – I like a one-piece, so that’s what you will see below. If you are a bikini girl, read on. There are great accessories to choose from here.

High Style

This screams luxury! I love that the pattern is unusual – it feels more like it would be on a long, flowing dress than a swimsuit. The high neckline is elegant and eye-catching, and that’s great. It means people will be looking at the gorgeous shape rather than at anything else.

Mixing patterns is a summer time sport. It is the perfect opportunity to have some fun and put things together in a more carefree way. The Vanessa Pant from Ulla Johnson would look great with the Lenny Neimeyer suit – relaxed elegance at its best.

This little classic Valentino is the most charming shoe. It shows off a dusty pink pedicure in the prettiest way and because it is rubber, I like to think of it as practical, too. This shoe is barely there and will look great with everything you own.

A gold hat? Why not? If we are going luxe, let’s go all the way and shine like the sun. This adorable straw hat from Gult Gaia is going to be so cute with the Valentinos!

Boho Beauty

Black and brown is a favorite color combination of mine. It’s a little unexpected and a lot chic. The deep plunge and tear drop opening has resort poolside written all over it, and that sounds pretty great to me.

I am totally into the relaxed, boho vibe of this Max Mara coverup. It’s lightweight and looks great open or closed, plus it flutters a bit when you walk. So easy. Over the Johanna Ortiz suit, all you need to add is a tall Aperol Spritz.

The perfect summer tote on the cheap. This bag holds everything, and even has a side pocket for your water bottle. And it comes with a tassel attached!

Adding a little espadrille (Castaner makes tons of cute ones) to the outfit makes it feel oh, so Amalfi – or maybe just a touch of St. Tropez. Either way, I’m in.

The Girl Next Door

I will buy another Tommy Bahama this year. This is my go-to brand for great shapes and an even better fit. They are the workhorse of summer because they are easy to wear and you never have to worry about a wardrobe malfunction.

With a little ruching around the tummy and a modest plunge front, this flatters all shapes and sizes. There are lots of colors and patterns to choose from. My current favorite is white and it’s surprisingly wearable.

Everyone needs a pareo in their closet. They dress up a simple suit so that you can go straight from the beach to lunch under the palapa in style. This one from Farm Rio (you’ve heard me talk about this brand before) is in the most beautiful blues with a fun, kicky fringe at the bottom.

I’m currently obsessed with the newest Madrid model from Birkenstock. In a neutral color, these will go with everything from summer dresses and shorts to a linen pantsuit. Wow – does that mean I only have to pack one pair of shoes for my summer holiday?

And speaking of travel, a great basic sun hat is a must have. Eric Javits specializes in packable hats AND great style.

Getting a little color

Basic black is great, but there is nothing that says summer time more than a fun color. I’m a fan of a pretty pink, but turquoise is also a flattering choice for most skin tones. This strapless Karla Colletto style has an interesting scallop detail that makes a simple shape special.

The Minoru coverup from Veronica Beard ticks all the boxes for me – it is light and lacy and will go over pretty much any suit. I love the idea of the pink suit peeping through the weave. This just feels easy, breezy.

If you aren’t familiar with Her New Tribe yet, I know you will love this brand. They make the most glorious ceramic earrings in fun shapes and lush colors. Wearing a pair of showy earrings at the beach or pool is oh, so glamorous. Impracticality perfect.

Manebi can meet all of your beachy needs. From coverups to sandals, they have it all, but their bags are just the best. Love the colors and the little palm dangle – it couldn’t be better with the Karla Coletto pinks (or pretty much anything else you will suit up in this summer!)
