5 Summer Packing Picks

I don’t believe in traveling light. I mean, I believe in it… I just don’t do it.

Something unexpected always comes up on a trip (and I like to be prepared) so I definitely pack that extra pair of shoes.  And an outfit that I probably won’t need. I’m like a boy scout. I’m prepared.

There are a few things that are always going to go in the suitcase.  For summer, these are my must have five:

1. The Great White

There is nothing better than a great white shirt. You can tuck them in, or tie them up. Roll the sleeves up, layer it with a tee or a sweater – heck, it can even be a chic swimsuit cover up when the need arises.

I always travel with one. I swear by the stretch cotton shirts from Theory. There are always a couple rotating through my closet at any given time.

Fresh, modern, classic.

2. Cardi Be

At some point during the trip I’m going to get cold, even in the summer. The plane will be hyper-chilled or the restaurant is drafty – doesn’t matter. I don’t leave home without a cardigan of some sort.

I love this one from Parisian brand Stella Pardo because it can go over a top, or throw it on over jeans and it makes an outfit all on its own. The way I imagine it is with a black sheath dress, brightly colored sandals, and this little chevron cardi thrown over my shoulders. Tres chic!

3. Cool for the Summer

A pretty dress is a must have vacation item. For summer I think it should be a fun, happy print, and the dresses from Farm Rio are a favorite of mine. They are super easy to wear and pack well. But the best part is that they make you feel special.

I like to keep it casual with flats and wear mine for a day of sightseeing, but they also look great if you go all out with killer heels and big earrings to dress up for dinner.

The really loud prints and maxi lengths are fun, but if that is too much, check out the website.  The brand has something for everyone

4. Are you looking at me?

I love a good graphic tee. (I’ve been hinting about a vintage Bowie tee for my birthday, I will keep you posted…)

They look great with jeans, but I also love them under a blazer dressed up a little bit.  You can show off a little personality with your choice.

My friends know I’m more than a little obsessed with evil eye patterns, and I think day sequins are de rigueur, so I just ordered this fun Lola tee from South Parade. It will be perfect with white jeans and sneakers by day, or turquoise sandals by night!

5. So Sneaky

Do you remember when wearing sneakers in a foreign country labeled you as an ugly American? One simply did not go about London or Paris wearing them. SO glad those days are over!

I will say that I like a low profile shoe, one that’s not too clunky. Adidas makes some great ones (the Stan Smiths are fun), and I’ve got a camo pair from Prada in my closet, too. But my favorites are by Golden Goose

Yes, they are pricey, but for me, owning a pair is worth it. They are very comfy and because they come already distressed, you don’t have to worry about ruining a perfectly white shoe. I always get compliments on mine, and honestly, they just make me happy when I wear them.

Glitter optional.
