Looking Forward in 2022

2022 feels hopeful. Don’t you think so, too? It feels like it is high time to look forward.

At the start of each year, I like to set my intentions for the next 12 months. Setting intentions helps direct my path for who and how I want to be.

In 2022, my plans include:

Prioritizing building and maintaining friendships. After Covid allowed my previously secret introverted self to flourish, I’ve come to realize that relationships take work, and it is work that I want to do.

Spending time saying yes — to new experiences and to taking risks. I want to spend more time learning and growing. And having fun, damn it!

Personal Goals

So I can remind myself of my intentions and stay on course, I keep this little Smythson 3-by-5 notebook in my purse. The design makes me smile every time I look at it. Each year, I dedicate a fresh page to my plans. This isn’t really as zen as it sounds — the rest of the notebook is filled with my to-do lists!

Design Trends

Interior design trends will be celebrating happier times to come. More is more exciting! We are going to see lots of color, mixed in fresh ways. I love the idea of turquoise and purple. Why not?

There will also be softer tones inspired by nature, like greens and soft, beachy tans and corals.  Wallpaper and patterns are still exciting, and I think we will see an increase in silvery metals alongside the hyper-popular golds and brassy tones. And I’m thrilled to see so many new trims coming on to the market. It’s time to embellish!

Fashion Finds

And speaking of embellishments, how about some fringe? For New Year’s Eve, I wore a beautiful, sparkly blouse that is covered in long, shiny black fringe. Sound like a lot? Yes! I absolutely want to dress for the pure pleasure of it. Loungewear as a fashion trend makes me sad. I want to wear suits and jackets and big voluminous pieces. I might even throw in a high heel or two.

Must-See Films

I’m looking forward to a couple of new movies coming out soon. The Andy Warhol biopic starring Jared Leto tops my list. Warhol was only 58 when he died, but his iconic artwork and larger-than-life persona could fill many movie screens. Leto is a great choice to play Warhol. From his portrayal of a trans woman with HIV in Dallas Buyer’s Club to his recent casting as Paolo Gucci in House of Gucci, the actor proves he is as much of a shape-shifter as Warhol was.

I also can’t wait to see Cyrano. Technically I think it is supposed to come out at the end of December, but since I won’t see it until 2022, I’m counting it as something to look forward to.  This version stars Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) and it is a musical! Pretty sure things are going to end on a happy note with this one.

Travel Highlights

As far as travel goes, I can’t wait for Palm Springs Modernism Week 2022. Chic, fun, and all about architecture and style, what’s not to love about this event? It is a full week in February, and the organizers have planned all kinds of cool tours and talks.

The perfect day would start with a visit to the recently restored Albert Frey Cree House, followed by a bit of sun and cocktails by the pool. I’d end the day with local drag queen Bella da Ball’s guided tour of celebrity homes.  Anybody want to join me for a drink?
