My 3 Favorite Beach Vacations

Fall is quickly on its way, but it’s not too late to seize that last sliver of summer. After the Covid-19 restrictions, many people need a relaxing getaway — a way to squeeze some enjoyment out of the lemons we’ve been given.

There’s no better escape than on the beach, listening to the song of the waves.

If you’re craving an ocean adventure, here are my three favorite beach vacations:

1. Petit St. Vincent

Petit St. Vincent is a totally relaxed, off-the-beaten-path, private island resort in the Caribbean Grenadine islands. You could spend the entire holiday in your casita if you choose, but lunch under a beachside palapa delivered to you by Mini Moke is an experience not to be missed.

So is the intimate space with open-air spa treatment rooms set up in the trees. And dinner with your toes in the sand under the starlight.

The walk to the spa is magical, in and of itself. The staircase feels like it’s carved right out of the trees. Take the beautiful, open-air deck into your treehouse-like private room, and experience incredible views while you have your spa treatment.

In addition, the staff here is so friendly that they feel like family.

2. Amanpuri

Amanpuri is a luxury beach resort in Thailand, although I enjoy any Aman resort. Any time.

However, this one holds a special place in my heart. The first time we went was only a couple of months after the tsunami of 2004, and the locals were so happy to have some business again. Such an exotic and beautiful place suffered terrible devastation, but the people had so much heart.

3. St. Barth

Le Guanahani, on St. Barth island, is perfect because of the long beachfront — you can take a quiet walk on one beach or people-watch on the other. It’s a great place to go with family, although the guests here are so elegant; I remember one woman in a blue and white bathing suit with matching palazzo pants and a Chanel chain belt. Tres chic! There is absolutely nothing better than a Caribbean holiday with French flair.

After a morning of reading by the sea, you can have a lunch of salade de chevre chaud with slices of the most mouth-watering, crusty baguette and a glass of French Chablis.
