The Best Handbags — Ever

A good handbag and a stylish pair of shoes can make an outfit. Pair the right bag with even a simple T-shirt and jeans, and you can walk out the door with minimal effort and maximum style.

When a bag is not just gorgeous but also super functional, that’s just heaven on a biscuit to me.

The right designer handbag is an investment piece, because it continues to work for you. It is timeless, useful and fashionable.

Here are my four favorite handbags — the best of the best.

1. Lanvin

My Lanvin Amalia chain bag is perfect. I’ve owned it for years, and every time I wear it I feel so sophisticated. I am a sucker for grosgrain, quilting and metal charms. This particular bag is no longer in production, but you can find great vintage options on Poshmark and Etsy.

2. Tom Ford

Tom Ford’s designs are modern classics. The Alix tote has a single shoulder strap that never falls off, has the ideal cell phone pocket and the leather wears beautifully. An investment, but one that pays off.

3. Hermes

The Hermes Birkin bag is my dream. Someday. Probably vintage. (This amethyste matte alligator Birkin bag from Sotheby’s is $82,000.)

4. Wandler

For a working girl, the Wandler Hortensia bag just works. It holds everything I need, plus some business stuff — my notebook and tape measure — and I can wear it as a crossbody so my hands are free when I’m on a jobsite.
