A Spring in my Step

On a recent visit across the pond to London (one of the greatest walking cities in the world), I was inspired by the shoes in all the shop windows.

Spring shoes were everywhere, and they were glorious. I couldn’t escape it – even the Times, that blue-blooded British newspaper institution, dished about the latest shoes in their Sunday style section delivered to my hotel room. Not that you could actually walk in most of the featured styles…think of them more as a spectator sport.

These are the trends I saw, and how I interpret them. Whether I can walk in them or not.

Peek-a-boo

Sheer is a trend in all things fashionable this spring, but you won’t catch me in a see through blouse. But a little peek-a-boo for my tootsies? Okay.

Roger Vivier had the most beautiful shop window on all of London’s chic Bond Street, featuring pointy toed pink and blue shoes. The clear choice for me, however, is this pink and red number from Louboutin. It’s on trend and still a classic.

Platforms

Not exactly a trend, but the platforms this year are so good, I just had to mention this one.  There is a platform for everyone, from flatforms (love this lofty lace up from Dolce Vita!) to sky high gorgeousness. A lot of them also come with a chunkier heel, making them my top choice for dressing up. Gianvito Rossi makes my favorite, go with anything pair.

Sneaking Around

This year’s sneakers are bigger, way bigger. Some of them look more like enormous tire treads than footwear.

While I did actually adore these chunky sneaks I spied by Gucci, I can already hear what you are thinking. “Linda is way too practical for those. Isn’t she?”  Well yes, most of the time. So the shoes you will see me walking around in this spring are the Quinn from The Office of Angela Scott.

A Little Puffy

I have to be honest, the puffy shoe and handbag thing of last year was not my favorite. Still, I saw lots of this trend in the UK for spring. I would de-puff a little and go with this padded Proenza Schouler flat. It’s cute and chunky, but won’t make my feet look like Minnie Mouse’s.

Another puffer that is actually a classic is Dolce Vita’s Pang. Perfect with an LBD to make your legs look a mile long.

Sparklers

Uber feminine footwear is huge right now, including anything that sparkles. And who doesn’t want to shine? In general I like my glitter to be a tad more badass than pink bow slides, so my choice is a pair of sexy Tom Ford stilettos.

And I’m a sucker for a good ombre.

Made ya Smile

Fashion is a funny thing, and I appreciate the humor and creativity in Loewe’s spring collection. They definitely made me do a double take when I passed them in the shop window. In fact many brands are showing playful, arty shoes this season.

To prevent falling flat on my face (both literally and stylistically) I like these fun, modern mules from JW Anderson. He’s been doing enormous, playful chain links on his shoes for years now, and this is a shoe I would wear all the time.

What spring shoes will you be wearing?
